Nina is here!?

I have a sudden flashback of everything related to the harpy. From the brothel to the incident at Rebecca’s bakery. And most importantly, the fact that I got her pregnant.

But what is she doing all the way over here in the Ieproalia? How did she even get here? It is way too far away from Clayacre!

[You know how to get those answers, buddy.]

“Yes, I know Nina. Can you take me to her?” I ask the guard.

“Looks like she wasn’t lying after all.” The guard raises his brows before gesturing for me to follow him.

It’s getting a bit late now. The crowd on the streets is thinning down, and the roadside shops are closing for the night.

“Are we going to the Elven prison?” I ask the guard curiously.

I notice that he isn’t gliding like the Elves usually do. Probably to keep pace with me.

“You think we would keep a half-monster, especially a simple Harpy, in our prison?” He looks back at me with a half-amused face.

“Of course not,” I say, shaking my head.

It almost slipped my mind that the Prison in Ieproaliais built to contain only the most heinous and dangerous criminals. Those who cannot be contained anywhere else but here, under the watchful eyes of some of the most powerful beings existing.

“We have a containment facility near the border for creatures and monsters who come too close to the city.”

After a rather long walk, we reach the border area. I don’t know why, but I was expecting a huge wall of some sort barricading the city from the outside, but there is none. All I see is a line of very tall trees with a thick forest behind.

“This way.”

At a distance, I can see a bunch of tents erected in a circular fashion with a couple of Elves manning the entrance. The guard with me doesn’t interact with either of the Elves at the entrance and simply escorts me inside.

“Usually, the place is full of creatures, but for some reason they’ve been steering clear of the city for the past few days,” the guard tells me, pointing at the bunch of empty wooden cages at the centre of the encampment. “With your Harpy being the exception.”

I can spot a figure lying inside the only cage that is occupied, seemingly asleep. It’s Nina.

She stirs as I walk close to her cage, slowly standing up while rubbing her eyes.

“I told you; I am not leaving until I see… Jacob?” Nina’s eyes open wide as she realizes it’s me.

“Em… hello,” I say awkwardly.

“Hi,” Nina replies.

We uncomfortably stare at each other for a few seconds. Of course, it’s like this. The first and the last time we met, she was basically acting crazy because of lust, and I was fucking her. There was no conversation involved.

“I… I wanted to see you,” she finally says. “I’ve been trying to meet you for a while now.”

“I know. Rebecca told me what happened at her bakery. But how did you get here? It’s too far from Clayacre!” I ask her with a frown.

“I followed your group through a strange portal a few days ago. Since then, I’ve been trying— and failing— to get inside this Eleven city. That was until yesterday when they caught me,” she tells me darkly.

“You shouldn’t have followed me here, Nina. You are too far from home, and it’s not safe here,” I tell her, trying to keep the sternness out of my voice as much as possible.

“I-I know, but I have my reason. Did that girl, Rebecca, mention that I was… I was pregnant with your child?” She asks.

Here it is. The inevitable subject that I knew I would have to talk about the moment I knew Nina was here. I can see the hopefulness in her eyes, probably thinking that I will surely agree with her reasoning.

[It’s tough, but you know what to do here, buddy.]

{We discussed this, master.}

“Rebecca mentioned it, Nina. But you still shouldn’t have come. What happened between us was just a… a…”

Fuck! This is tough. I know that the whole thing between Nina and me was contractual and in a brothel setting. The main point of it all was for me to get laid and for her to get pregnant. I am not supposed to feel responsible for the child. Black and Pink already told me this, and I was convinced at the time. But now, facing Nina directly, I am feeling conflicted again.

But I to do it.

“I brought our egg with me, you know,” she tells me hurriedly. I think she sensed what I am about to say, for she certainly has a downcast look now. “And… And I am not expecting you to take responsibility or anything. I just wanted my child to see their father once. Is that not possible?”

“Wait a second- you bought the egg here!?” I ask, surprised. “But that’s really unsafe! You do know that the Elves have passed an execution order for you, right? Of course, I will try my best to make sure it doesn’t happen, but still!”

“I know, but I could feel that the child is about to hatch soon. I cannot stay far from the egg for long, lest it hatch without my presence!” She explains.

Damn.

“And on this matter, I want your help, Jacob. Can you please ask the Elves to return my egg? I kept it inside a wooden box for safety, but they snatched it from me earlier.”

I look back at the guard questioningly, and he shrugs back.

“Safety protocol, probably,” he says. “Now that it’s clear you know the Harpy, we probably won’t be executing her as long as she agrees to certain conditions. Let me go and see if I can get her egg back.”

The guard turns and glides away, leaving Nina and me alone.

“So, about what I asked earlier, will you just let the child see you once, Jacob? I swear I won’t bother you again.” She almost seems to be begging me.

[I think it would be best if you don’t agree to this. Don’t test yourself further when you are already conflicted.]

{I agree with Pink, master. Furthermore, I suggest disassociating yourself with this Harpy. Let the Elves carry out the execution. Who knows whether she will actually stop bothering you or not? Better to nip the problem in the bud. She’s not your permanent woman anyway.}

[The fuck!? You’re taking it too far! I am not letting Jacob kill a woman he fucked. Period.]

You’re sick in the head if you think I would do that, Black.

{I apologise but that is the best solution, master.}

I am not looking for the best solution.

Anyway…

“Sorry, Nina. I don’t think I will be able to—”

I stop myself. A strange thought comes to my mind. I’ve been worried about so many things recently, and they constantly bug my mind. Even now, they were at the back of my head. And the current situation made some of them click.

Wait, is that possible..?

“Hey.”

The guard returns, interrupting my train of thought.

“I asked around, and the person on duty said they didn’t confiscate anything from the Harpy. Not a wooden box or any egg.”
